Urodynamics
Urodynamics is a specialised test used to assess how well your bladder is working.
Urodynamics Testing
Urodynamic testing is often recommended for women experiencing urinary incontinence or when planning surgical treatment for pelvic organ prolapse. It provides valuable insights into bladder function, helping to tailor your care and achieve the best possible outcomes
What to Expect
The test involves the placement of small, fine catheters into the bladder and rectum to monitor how your bladder and urethra respond during filling and emptying.
The procedure itself takes approximately 30 minutes, but please allow up to 60 minutes for your appointment to include preparation and discussion.
The test is conducted while you are awake and is generally well tolerated. Most patients can resume their normal activities immediately afterward.
If you are menstruating on the day of your appointment, please contact our rooms to discuss whether the test needs to be rescheduled.
Preparing for Your Appointment
A full bladder is required for this test:
Empty your bladder two hours before your appointment.
Drink 500mls (2 large glasses) of water and finish drinking at least 30 minutes before your appointment.
Avoid tea or coffee on the day of the test as they can affect bladder function.
Wear comfortable clothing, and feel free to bring any questions or concerns to discuss during your visit.
